The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department has begun clearing land to build a new District Four headquarters at Chaffee Crossing. On July 11, 2007, AHTD approved plans to build a $6.3 million district headquarters and complex on 39 acres it received from the Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority at the end of 2002. The complex will be built in phases over a five-year period and will include a resident engineer’s office, maintenance headquarters, materials division lab, highway police district commander’s office, administrative offices, and a warehouse and shop.
