LifeBridge Independent Housing Project at Chaffee
Crossing
In March 2005 ceremonial shovels were
put to use at the groundbreaking for the initial phase of the
LifeBridge Independent Housing Project. The ribbon cutting for
the new buildings was held on March 22, 2006. On land conveyed
to Bost by the Fort Chaffee Redevelopment Authority, two new
structures took root: the Allyn and Tammie Donaubauer House and
the Charles and Karen Still House. These innovative residential
facilities will provide homes for aging adults with developmental
disabilities, ensuring their comfort, safety and dignity to the
end of their lives.
The new buildings were designed by Architecture
Plus, Michael Johnson, principal architect. Construction was awarded
to SSI, Inc.
The LifeBridge Independent Housing Project will
initially provide homes for eight aging individuals in handicapped-accessible
apartments that they can share with a caregiver. The twin structures
meet the highest standards of accessibility according to the ADA
(Americans With Disabilities Act).
“People with disabilities are living longer,
healthier lives, just like the general population” said Roy
Thompson, Executive Director of the Bost Foundation. “Our
philosophy is that the adults we serve should age in place, and
have a safe, secure, comfortable home for the rest of their lives.”
